Abia is among the few states selected to benefit from the European Union ( EU ) sponsored Solar power project for Health institutions and their neighborhood communities. tagged ” Nigeria Solar For Health Project”.
The state Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu said so when he addressed journalists after the state executive council ( SEC ) meeting yesterday adding that under this project tagged ” Nigeria Solar For Health ” the EU and the state government are to contribute 70 and 30 % of the project cost respectively.
He described the project as part of the state government’s ” Light-up Abia Initiative” adding that under this Initiative, 4,500 Solar Power Lights have been installed in 74 locations across the state and continuing.
The Commissioner also announced that under the ongoing operation zero-pothole being executed by the state Ministry of Works, 124 roads have been attended to , in addition to various other road projects ongoing across the state.
As part of the reforms in the education sector, he also said that the SEC approved provision of the running costs for the offices of heads of schools to address reported illegal collection of fees as well as the pressure on the schools administration.
