Otti receives Abia NNPP leadership and members into Labour Party
Abia state governor and leader of the state rulung Labour Party ( LP ) Dr Alex Otti formerly received into LP the leadership, Structure and members of the state New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who defected to his Labour Party.
Addressing governor Otti’ at his Nvosi country home, where the NNPP decampees declared for the LP, the NNPP State Leader and its guber candidate in the 2023 Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai, including the State Coordinator of the Party Mr. David Urum, said they came to formally collapse the leadership and structure of the NNPP in Abia State to the Labour Party.
They disclosed that their defection was motivated by Governor Otti’s endearing re-definition of the state governance that has restored smiles on the faces of Abians.
” According to Dr Ukpai, Governor Alex Otti understands governance and we have been following and supporting him but today, we have come to consolidate that support. Abia NNPP has moved into the state Labour Party and joined forces with Dr. Alex Otti to move Abia forward “.
Welcoming them into the LP fold, governor Otti told them that all LP membership rights and privileges would apply to them irrespective of their status as new members stressing that in LP there is no form of discrimination as all members are equal.
” That you are joining today doesn’t make you inferior to those that have been in the party before you, otherwise people like us would not have been able to fly the flag of the party”.
Governor Otti thanked Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai led state NNPP for subsisting support to his administration whose focus he said, has been on attending to the welfare of Abians who have suffered untold hardship due to maladministration of the past.
In their speeches, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma and Acting State Chairman of Labour Party, Sir Emmanuel Oti said that Governor Alex Otti has through purposeful leadership made the Labour Party an ideal party for all, adding that Abians now raise their shoulders high wherever they find themselves.
Meanwhile, the governor, has commenced as he promised, the payment of arrears of salaries amounting to almost eighteen (18 billion ) naira owed some institutions in the state by previous administrations.
But he said that the arrears will be settled in monthly tranches of 1.5 billion naira which commenced from this September 2024 will be completed within one year.
He said, “previous administrations were not paying various institutions, hence the bill accumulated to a little less than 18 Billion Naira and we have taken the bull by the horn by paying N1.5 Billion every month starting from this month.
“We will remain focused , we will not be distracted. The important thing for us is the welfare of the people not welfare of big men, not welfare of politicians”.
