The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has posited that what the state deserves should be leadership anchored on accountability, performance and transparency, and not what it tagged ” media content creation, noise making, bullying of senior citizens and unnecessary distractions”
The party through its state Publicity Secretary ( PS ) Comrade Uche Aguoru who disclosed this during a chat, referred to what he said was a recent outburst by the Umuehim Nvosi faction of the state Labour Party, who according to him ( PS ), ” chose to attack the person of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, instead of addressing the critical issues that he ( Kalu ) raised during a meeting of APC members held at senator Kalu’s Igbere country home last week.
The PS described the said Nvosi Labour Party as a faceless and fragmented group parading as representatives of a faction whose legitimacy remains unrecognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, arguing that in the eyes of the law as it stands, the Faction does not exist, unless the Supreme Court decides otherwise.
He said ” but we are however, compelled to respond because the Labour Party Faction statement, rather than provide answers to the substantive issues raised by Senator Kalu in Igbere, ” descended into needless innuendos, name-calling, and personal attacks, completely ignoring matters of urgent public concern”.
PS Aguoru said that Senator Kalu while addressing the meeting, raised fundamental and widely acknowledged issues, namely; the rising cost of education in Abia State, poor welfare conditions of lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions, continued neglect of teachers in primary and secondary schools, stressing that these are not speculative claims, but realities known to the people, adding that instead of addressing these concerns, the Labour Party faction resorted to attacking senator Kalu’s person and his family.
He opined there is near absence of new infrastructure development by the current state Labour Party led-administration, and stating that what is being showcased by the state administration “are projects initiated by past state administrations, including those executed during senator Kalu’s tenure as governor, between 1999 and 2007, which the APC alleged ” are being rehabilitated at an embarrassingly humongous costs, without offering any factual rebuttal, but only abuses”
According to Comrade Aguoru, senator Kalu’s call on Alex Otti administration to prioritize the welfare of Abians and ensure the prudent use of public resources is a patriotic and statesmanlike intervention one that deserves commendation from all well-meaning citizens, urging that the Umuehim Nvosi faction of the Labour Party should, therefore, abandon the path of personal attacks and instead, demonstrate a little sense of responsibility by addressing the issues raised, and working towards improving governance in the state.
He said that one that remains certain, is ” that come 2027, the APC will not only secure all the three senatorial seats, win the seven House of Representatives seats, the 24 seats in the State House of Assembly, reclaim the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, and restore governance to its rightful seat.
