Leader of the All Progressives Congress APC in Abia state, who is also the Deputy Speaker ( DS ) of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has explained why the state Ward Congresses hitherto scheduled for the previous week did not hold.
He did so while addressing party members on Wednesday in Umuahia, the state capital in the presence of the state Congress Committee members that arrived to conduct the exercise in the state led by Hon Emmanuel Goar , from Plateau state.
Hon DS Kalu attributed the cause of not holding the Congress n the former scheduled date to different Forms that were flying.
He said that with the provision of the certified Forms approved by the APC National Leadership, and with the constitution of local Congress Committees at Ward, Local and State levels, a hitch free exercise would result .
The DS commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national chairman of the APC, Professor Nentwe Yilwatda and the National Working Community (NWC) for their timely interventions that resolved the issue including the Abia APC caucus members that participated in the Abuja meetings, in which the matters were resolved and recognized every member as an equal stakeholder in the party.
DS Kalu said that Abia was supposed to conduct Congresses last week, but multiple forms surfaced against the directives of the highest decision making body of our party,
We agreed that for continued cohesion in our party, we desire only the Congress that will strengthen our cohesion, which should be a Congress of harmonization, where the stakeholders should decide who will lead them from Ward to LG to the State, and make thus make every member to be relevant and important.
“We are therefore here to do what is right and just, not anything outside our mandate. So, I urge you to trust that we are going to do this Congress that all Abia State APC members will be happy and proud of the outcome.
