Leader of the Obuohia Obi-Ibere community in Ikwuano Council of Abia state Pastor Princes Chinyere Onuigbo has tasked the women of her Obuohia Obi-Ibere community to rise to the challenge posed to them by their dilapidating Hall, and do the needful to rehabilitate it.
Mrs Onuigbo who is the National President of the Women Wing of the Obuohia Obi- Ibere Development Union ( ODU ), threw the hall rehabilitation challenge to the women during their 2025 annual August meeting held weekend in the community primary school,
She said that the annual August meetings provide them the forum to strengthen bonds, empower women , address pressing community matters and initiate projects that have the capacity to positively impact lives in the community.
” It is therefore in line with our centuries old tradition that we should resolve and challenge ourselves to address this hall rehabilitation, using this platform of our 2025 August meeting themed ” Community Engagement and Participation: Women in Purposeful Transformation and Advocacy”.
Pastor Onuigbo, who is the wife of the ex two term member of the house of representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia, Abia state, Chief Sam Onuigbo further said ” this hall is not just a Building, it is a sacred space where our stories are told, our Leaders deliberate, youths trained, our culture preserved, and our unity re-expressed, among other uses.
“We therefore have the choice to allow it to decay further or rise together to restore it as a befitting glorious center, at a targeted N20 million naira cost.
Her Husband, Sam Onuigbo, who serves presently as the South East Representative on the North East Development Commission Board , acknowledged that women have become custodians of peace and harmony in communities,
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Chief Abraham Osondu, Chief Onuigbo urged the government to invest more in women, who he also said, have also become the pillars of stability in their communities.
Onuigbo opined that there would have been much crises in Nigerian homes and communities without the peaceful and intervening roles of the women, who, he said, sometimes took over the reactivation/completion of many abandoned community projects through the united efforts.
Onuigbo commended President Bola Tinubu and his wife, senator Oluremi Tinubu for through the Renewed Hope Initiative, positively touch and impact lives of Nigerians across the country, and Abia state governor’s wife, Priscilla Otti for mobilizing Abia women for development.
In their separate addresses/goodwill messages, the National President of ODU men wing, Chiedozie Atuma urged the Obuohia Obi-Ibere women to ensure that their children do not involve themselves in criminal activities, while the National Coordinator of ODU Women’s Wing, Mrs Gloria Nwabuike reported that the school drop-out syndrome, maternal problems, drug abuse among youths have been tackled in the community by women, through seminars, in which the NDLEA and Ministry of Health Officials were involved.
