Chairman of Abia state Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) Elder Abraham Amah says that the decamping of members of political parties from one party to another and formation of Coalition of parties are not novel phenomena in Nigeria politics.
He described this scenario as ever-shifting terrain of Nigerian politics, and told NIGERIAREPORTS.NG during a chat that ” the recent surge in defections and the formation of political alliances such as the ADC bloc, are part of a broader theatre designed to project movement, but not necessarily a momentum”.
He said that as Chairman of the state PDP, he observes these developments without anxiety, but with calm assurance that his party remains the most deeply rooted and strategically positioned political family in Abia state.
Predicting that the 2027 general elections will not be a game of coalitions but a test of structure, trust, and capacity, he disclosed that while others are organizing meetings of convenience, his PDP is organizing its soul, and reconnecting with the grassroots, strengthening it’s internal democracy, and preparing its leaders for the heavy task of governance.
” We are not afraid of the future but investing in it. Whether in power or in opposition, the PDP in Abia remains the conscience of the state, such that we are the rallying point for credible leadership, serious policy conversations, and democratic balance”.
Despite that many notable members of the state party ( PDP ) have decamped from it to the APC, or the state ruling Labour Party, some to ADC Coalition , Elder Amah maintained that his party does not exist in slogan but in truth and in action.
According to him, ” Abia state PDP is rising because we never really fell.
Whether in power or in opposition, we are not afraid of the future, PDP in Abia remains the conscience of the state. We are the rallying point for credible leadership, serious policy conversations, and democratic balance. We remain the party of the people, not in slogan, but in truth and in action.
With solid structures in all the State 184 political wards and the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, our network remains unmatched. It is not a rented gathering of transient allies, but a living, breathing political institution with organic followership that span generations, withstood storms, triumphed through transitions, and delivered real value to the electorate.
Specifically speaking on the ADC Coalition, the Abia State PDP Chairman ( Amah ) further said
that while new coalitions such as the ADC seek to gain traction, PDP is not unaware that political experiments without grassroots dept rarely mature into durable movements, adding that the PDP is not an emergency shelter for political ambitions, but is a well-structured engine powered by trust, performance, and legacy”.
To those that decamped from the PDP, he said that the party’s commitment is not transactional but transformational hence , it remains open to reconciliation and reintegration.
” Those who may have left under political pressure or in pursuit of quick rewards can always return, as the doors of the PDP remain open, but the integrity of our mission is not negotiable.
” But we ask those that left what exactly they have found on the other side? What you chase may glitter for a moment, but that does not make it gold. We in the PDP are not moved by rebranding or temporary visibility.
“Our work speaks for us, and the people of Abia know the difference between performative politics and principled leadership. Our concern is not with ambition, we understand that ambition fuels democracy, but it is disloyalty that undermines the people’s will.
