From Gordi Udeajah

Abia State development plan which will articulate its development trajectory for the next 25 years and described as a strategic, future-proof document will soon be unveiled.

The state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this to journalists Monday night after the state executive council weekly meeting, indicating that the plan will outline both the short-, medium, and long-term aggregate growth in a sequential progression.

The ultimate goal is for government to have a handy development plan in structured manner, which shall be binding on every state ruling administration to implement.

“The document will include funding pathways for the plan. Upon the unveiling of the document, necessary legal backing will be put in place to ensure that it runs in full course” , Prince Kanu stated.

It was gathered that from its creation, the state has operated without detailed duly produced development plan.

The Commissioner added that in the bid to forestall building collapses in the state, government has established a digital Materials Testing Laboratory saying ” the facility will play a vital role in preventing building collapses across Abia state”.

There had been many incidents of building collapsing in parts of the state, affecting lose of lives, injuries and properties worth billions of naira which were attributed majorly to use of substandard and or wrong materials.

General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority ( UCDA) Mr Kingsley Agomo said that henceforth, following the establishment of the Laboratory, located within his Office Premises, all building materials must be pre-tested and certified in the Laboratory before use, including those sold in the markets.
