Former Abia State two term member of the House of Representatives Hon Sam Onuigbo, has stated that the state should not elect persons
of doubtful pedigree and or Lilliputs to represent the state from 2027 in the next 11th Senate.

He therefore called for the election of the calibre of persons he said are being envisaged by Nigerians and President Tinubu into the next star-studded National Assembly
maintaining that these next set of senators must be those that ” have been tried, tested, and not found wanting, either in character, carriage and comportment”.

Hon Onuigbo, who the record shows, is the only lawmaker that has so far served the Umuahia/Ikwuano Constituency for two consecutive terms in the House of Representatives, prescribed this yesterday at Odoziobodo Hills, in his Obuohia Obi Ibere community , Ikwuano LGA, while declaring intent to contest election in 2027 into the next Senate for his Abia Central Senatorial Zone on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), soliciting his constituents support.

He told the people that his aspiration to the Nigerian Senate is to invest his rich experience and reflect hope as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ” and by so doing, I wish to assure you, my people, that I will always reflect humility, integrity, honour and diligence in discharging your legislative mandate”.

Recalling his service in the national assembly, he described it as one during which he proved to be a good ambassador of his community, state and people through palpable string of excellent achievements.

He said that today, the singular signature legislation the ( Climate Change Law) that catapulted Nigeria into global reckoning in sustainability was sponsored by him.

According to Hon Onuigbo, who is currently the South East Representative in the North East Development Commission, as a result of that unique achievement ( Climate Change Law ), many domestic and international organisations have recognized him with various honours and awards.

” Consequently, Abia State, as God’s Own State, cannot afford to send intellectual Lilliputs, or persons of doubtful pedigree to the next star-studded National Assembly being envisaged by Nigerian nation led by President Tinubu and Nigerians.

” What this calls for is that only those that have been tried, tested and not found wanting, either in character, carriage and comportment deserve your support to represent Abia Central Senatorial Zone in the 11th Senate”.

Promising that if elected senator, he will continue to run on his operating principle ; Effectiveness, Accessibility, and Responsiveness ( EAR ), he said,” as God will have it, at about this time in 2015, I was elected to represent the good people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for two consecutive terms (2015–2019; 2019–2023).

” To date, I was the only representative to have been re-elected in this great federal constituency.

” Hence I wish to state that the consolidation of the Renewed Hope Agenda is predicated on the preponderance of qualitative lawmakers in the 11th National Assembly”.

Hon Onuigbo also referred to his 18 years’ stint as a staff of the United States Consulate in Lagos, before he entered into politics, stating that his service in the Consulate, helped him ” to hone skills in public policy, as well as hands-on experience in diplomatic, legislative, and policy leadership experience across governance and international cooperation”.

” I therefore feel elated that I am not only doubly qualified to serve our zone as Senator, but also confident to bring them honour and accomplished representation”

He declared ” after nearly twenty seven years of unbroken democratic dispensation, Nigerians should be able to elect leaders who have genuine and transparent records of accomplishments.”

Hon Onuigbo is widely acclaimed to have done the needful that facilitated the restoration in 2025 of the delisted Management Sciences Courses at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) since 2016/2017, and the rehabilitation of the long dilapidated abandoned Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene federal road, among others. The university is located within his constituency, while the road traverses through same.
